Axmen dominate State Liners, score most single-game runs of season

The Kingsport Axmen trounced the Bristol State Liners by a final score of 17-5.

Kingsport (17-5) trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but the Axmen would score in each of the next seven innings.

The Axmen scored two runs in the top of the second on a Kyle Booker RBI single and Henry Hunter RBI double. Kingsport added two more runs in the third inning on a two-run single hit by Aaron Casillas.

The Axmen started to pull away from Bristol (5-17) in the fourth inning, as they scored three runs to take a 7-2 lead. Henry Hunter hit a solo home run to deep center field, and Jake Perry hit a two-run double down the left-field line.

Kingsport added one run in the top of the fifth on a Hunter RBI single.

Hunter went 3-for-5 with three RBI and was a triple short of hitting for the cycle.

The Axmen scored four runs in the sixth and seventh innings as they took a commanding a 16-3 lead over the State Liners. Jake Perry clubbed his second home run of the season well over the right-field fence.

In the 12-run victory, Kingsport starting RHP Cole Hales (3-0, 1.74 ERA) recorded the win, throwing six innings, allowing six hits, three (earned) runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

The Axmen scored a season-high 17 runs on 20 hits, which was also a season-high. Kingsport has outscored Bristol by a cumulative score of 42-7 in the last three meetings.

The Axmen look to complete the series sweep over the State Liners on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Hunter Wright Stadium.
