Kingsport's winning streak snapped after losing slugfest to Greenville

In the highest-scoring game either team had played in this season, Kingsport fell to Greenville, 17-14, on Thursday.

Kingsport (16-4) drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Ian Riley scored on a Kyle Booker RBI double-play groundout.

Greenville (9-11) scored three runs in the top of the second, but Kingsport responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead.

The third inning was the only inning with no runs scored.

The Flyboys scored six runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-6 lead. Both Greenville and Kingsport scored one run in the fifth and the Flyboys scored another in the top of the sixth to take an 11-7 lead through six innings of play.

The game took a wild turn in the bottom of the seventh. The Axmen stormed back, scoring six runs to regain the lead at 13-11. Jake Perry scored on a Mayes White sacrifice fly, Aaron Casillas singled home Corbin Shaw, Riley hit a groundout that scored home Henry Hunter, both Nick Block and Riley scored on passed balls and Booker scored on a Jake Perry ground ball that was ruled an error.

The Axmen scored an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an Aaron Casillas RBI single. Casillas and Shaw went a combined 7-for-7 with seven singles, four RBI, two walks and three runs scored.

The Flyboys scored six in the top of the ninth and the Axmen went down in order to end the game, snapping Kingsport’s seven-game win streak.

The Axmen have a chance to get revenge on the Flyboys on Friday night in Greenville.
