The Bluefield Ridge Runners extend a warm welcome to their pitching coach for the 2022 season, Bluefield’s own Garrett Schilling. Garrett has been promoted this year to the pitching coach position after serving as the player development coach in 2021 for the Ridge Runners.
Garrett hails originally from San Diego, Calif., where he played at San Diego Mesa Community College before transferring to Bluefield University. Garrett was the starting catcher at Bluefield for two years and then transitioned into an assistant coaching position and recruiting coordinator for the Rams, a position he’s held since 2016. Schilling also served as the head coach and recruiting specialist for the Palm Springs Collegiate League in 2017-20.
Having worked closely with the 2021 Ridge Runners pitching coach Dennis Rasmussen, a former MLB pitcher, Garrett looks to bring that big league mentality and philosophy to the Rail Gang for 2022.
