Axmen score early, hold off Bristol at home

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The State Liners came up just short in a quick one, 2-0, as they fell to the Axmen on Sunday afternoon in a seven-inning contest.

Kingsport struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a sac fly and an RBI groundout, to take a 2-0 lead.

Bristol had chances, notably in the first, when they put runners at the corners, but came up empty after due to a force out. They got multiple singles from Collin Dobson, Olin Ward and Beau Revord, but couldn’t string enough hits together to push a run across.

Bristol’s bullpen was solid, with Aidan Savona and Adam Buczkowski tossing clean frames. However, Kingsport’s pitching was sharper, and the defense shined in the shutout thanks to two key double plays.

Bristol struck out 10 times and stranded several runners in scoring position, dropping the contest despite a competitive showing.

Bristol moved to 8-8 on the season and will start another series against the Johnson City Doughboys at TVA Credit Union Ballpark on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
