
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A Fourth of July contest between the Otterbots and State Liners ended by a score of 7-6 in favor of Danville.
The State Liners got the scoring started early with a Hayden Blair double. The Otterbots took the lead after a three-run top half of the second, highlighted by an Elgin Bennett two-run double to center. Danville tacked on another in the top of the third on an Antonio Cordiero sacrifice fly.
A passed ball in the fifth and a Xander Zumwalt home run (1) in the sixth put the score at 6-2 with Danville on top after six innings.
Bristol scratched across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, thanks to a wild pitch by Brooks Chamberlin and a double by Brooks Wright. Both runs came in the same at-bat to Wright.
Danville added a seventh run in the eighth thanks to a walk from State Liners pitcher David Hamilton.
The State Liners clawed back in the eighth, scoring two more on Prince Deboskie and David Patterson Singles, cutting Danville's lead to 7-6. Danville at the end of the eighth. After threatening in the ninth, the State Liners left the tying and go-ahead runs on base to end the game.
Danville won its eighth game of the year, while Bristol's losing streak stretched to four games. Both teams sit at the bottom of their divisions heading into the second game of the three-game series on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. Saturday night's game begins at 7:00 p.m.
