JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — The Danville Otterbots completed their second sweep of the season as they held off the Bristol State Liners by a final score of 9-7 on Sunday.
The seven-inning affair saw plenty of offensive production from both squads, as the Otterbots jumped all over State Liners starting pitcher Liam Watt in the first. Jaxon Goldberg's first triple of the season drove in the first run. A Bruce Wyche two-run double followed by an Aimon Chandler single made it 4-0 Danville. Xander Zumwalt added an RBI double, and Danville's No. 9 hitter, Alexander Sifford, was credited with an RBI groundout to cap a six-run frame.
Bristol plated a run in its half of the first on a Chris Patterson double that moved the score to 6-1 in favor of Danville after the first inning.
Watt would settle down in the second inning and get some run support in the Bristol half of the second on Collin Dobson's third home run of the year. The three-run blast made it 6-4 after the second.
Things would quiet down, as the State Liners' bullpen shut down the Otterbots' offense until the sixth.
A Jaxon Walker double brought the score to within one for Bristol in the fifth, but Danville answered right back to extend its lead in the sixth. Goldberg's second base hit of the day drove in a run, and a Bristol reliever's wild pitch, as well as a Wyche single, would amount to three runs in the top half of the sixth.
The State Liners once again threatened in their last trip to the plate, as a Brady Gray single scored the sixth and seventh runs in the seventh for Bristol. The State Liners left the tying run at the plate to end the game.
Danville is set to play Burlington on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the series split between American Legion Field and Burlington Athletic Stadium.
Bristol returns to action Tuesday as well, looking to correct its six-game slide against the Tri-State Coal Cats at TVA Credit Union Ballpark in Johnson City.
