HUNTINGTON, W. Va. — The Tri-State Coal Cats (4-3) faced back-to-back weather delays this weekend, with both games against the Greenville Flyboys (3-3) postponed due to lightning and heavy rain.
Friday’s game, a scoreless contest through three innings, was halted after the third inning. Despite being held hitless, the Coal Cats remained competitive behind a stellar outing from starting pitcher Tucker DeLisle, who threw three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five. The game will resume Sunday at noon, beginning in the top of the fourth inning as the first game of a doubleheader.
Saturday’s matchup marked the debut of the Coal Cats’ alternate jerseys and team name, the Huntington Slaw Dogs, under which they will play all Saturday home games. However, inclement weather struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Greenville leading, 5-2. After an extended rain delay, officials called the game, which will be resumed at a date to be announced.
Sunday’s doubleheader will begin with the continuation of Friday’s game, followed by a seven-inning Game 2 after a 30-minute intermission.
