BOTS Read Around the Bases

A cornerstone of the Otterbots’ partnerships with Danville Public Schools and Pittsylvania County Schools, the BOTS Read Around the Bases summer reading program officially kicked off in spring 2022, and has continued into the 2022-2023 school year.

To encourage students to stay academically active between school years, the Otterbots — with support from Unique Industries, KG Graphics, and the Southside Area Tennis Association — will provide all DPS & PCS elementary and middle school students with the opportunity to earn incredible prizes and recognition as they Read Around the Bases! Over the course of the spring semester, Scotter the Otter makes appearances at all elementary and middle schools to distribute scorecards and get students excited about summer reading.

Our challenge to students is simple: Just like our team has to run 90 feet to advance around the diamond, students need to read 90 minutes to advance a base! When a student reaches a new base, they earn a new prize.

All students who Read Around the Bases and hit a Home Run (360+ total minutes) will get a one-of-a-kind Otterbots T-Shirt and FREE ticket to Reader Appreciation Night at the ballpark, featuring a pregame parade around the warning track. In total, students have an opportunity to win five amazing prizes and be recognized in front of thousands of fans, just for reading over summer break.
