Just when you thought having a beer and a hot dog at an Otterbots game couldn’t get any better: Now stepping up to the plate, batting cleanup, playing every single one of your taste buds, LAGERBOT!
In collaboration with Ballad Brewing, the Danville Otterbots are pleased to announce a team branded beer coming to the ballpark this season. A pale lager brewed specifically for enjoying at a ballgame, Lagerbot will be available at all Otterbots home games and in the Ballad Brewing taproom at 600 Craghead St. in the heart of Danville’s River District.
“My first night in Danville was spent at Ballad, and it’s become my home away from home and office away from the office,” said Otterbots general manager Austin Scher. “I am immensely proud to call Ballad a partner of the Otterbots–their team has created an incredible environment in the taproom, an amazing calendar of creative and inclusive events, and some of my favorite beers of all time. As a craft beer lover, to be able to collaborate with them to bring a new product to the ballpark and taproom is a highlight of my career in baseball.”
The Otterbots and Ballad hosted a private event in the taproom in February 2022 for Otterbots season ticket holders and Ballad platinum society members. Guests had the opportunity to taste test several Ballad beers and rate them on all appearance, taste, color, finish, ABV and overall drinkability. With the help of his team, Ballad head brewer Chris Myers compiled the taste test results and concocted a fresh new brew unlike anything tasted before. Thus, Lagerbot was born.
“This was a really exciting and fun project to work on. After the Otterbots unveiled their name and logo in our Taproom, I always felt like this was a partnership that would happen very naturally,” said Ballad business manager Austin Bunn. “It has been a real pleasure to work with their management team and collaborate on this project. When we hosted the tasting to decide what the beer would be, it was really cool to see members of our Platinum Society who were also season ticket holders. It just goes to show how invested the Otterbots are in our community. Lagerbot is a Golden Lager with a touch of sweetness and four different hops. This produces a nice, lighter lager with citrus hop character and very little bitterness - exactly what we learned from the results of the tasting. Lagerbot is a beer brewed in Danville, for Danville's team.”
Lagerbot will release in the Ballad Taproom on Thursday, May 26 with Scotter the Otter in attendance, and will be available at all Otterbots home games during the 2022 season beginning on Appy League Opening Night, Thursday, June 2.
