
DANVILLE, Va. — The Danville Otterbots and the Bluefield Ridge Runners played the first game of a two-game series at Dan Daniel Memorial Park on Tuesday night. This is the last time these two teams will face each other during the regular season. The Otterbots’ late runs scored helped them beat Bluefield in a close one-run victory, 4-3.
Jackson Tyer captured player of the game honors thanks to a big home run in the sixth inning, his shot extended the Otterbots’ lead to 3-1. He would also score another run to have half of the Otterbots’ runs in the game. He scored off of Carrington Aarons's double in the third inning.
Shawn Scott grabbed his fourth win of the season and Ryan Perry did a fantastic job in the early stages of the ball game. They pitched six combined innings, struck out nine batters and only gave up one run. The pitching staff as a whole had 13 total strikeouts.
Mason Brady grabbed his third hold on the season and Ty Parker came into the ball game with two base runners on and got the first batter he faced to fly out in the eighth. Then he got the job done in the ninth to pick up the first Appalachian League save of his career.
Up next, these two teams will meet Wednesday for the series finale. The Ridge Runners are looking to hop back into the second playoff spot, while the Otterbots will look to extend their lead in first place.
