The Danville Otterbots and the Greeneville Flyboys played a doubleheader Saturday, a continuation of the game rained out in Greeneville on June 9. The Otterbots won Game 1 decisively by a score of 11-1 and then the Flyboys held their breath in Game 2 as they won 9-8.

In Game 1, the Otterbots had the bases loaded with no one out to start the game and failed to score, but then the offense exploded throughout the rest of the game.

The Otterbots put up runs in five of the seven innings played. Micah Dean had four runs batted in and Cole Johnson had three RBIs on the game. Those two carried the Bots in Game 1.

James Guyette was outstanding for the Bots in his start in Game 1. Guyette tossed four innings of one-run ball, struck out six and gave up only two hits to claim his first win of the season. Speaking of firsts, Raymond Ladd picked up his first save of the season. He went the following three innings and let in no runs on four strike outs.

Game 2 was a completely different story as the Flyboys would get going early after Rintaro Sasaki took Zechariah Gibson deep in the first inning for his first home run in the Appalachian League. The long ball was the farthest-hit ball in the history of Dan Daniel Memorial Park. It traveled 430 feet and had an exit velocity of 106.9 miles per hour. The blast helped the Flyboys jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Flyboys had a 9-1 lead heading into the fifth inning, but the Bots ran off five runs in the fifth to make it a game.

The starter for the Flyboys, Ethan Phillips, went a total of 4 2/3 innings but just could not get out of the fifth frame, when he gave up five runs.

Brady Fredrick had to come into the game and get the final out of the inning, His appearance turned into a save situation that he successfully got after the Bots threatened with the tying run on second base in the final inning. Frederick picked up his sixth save on the season.

Up next, the series finale takes place on Sunday as these two teams will play in a seven-inning Sunday special. The game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and you catch it on Pixellot TV.
