DANVILLE, Va. — Things looked good right out of the gate in Danville as the Otterbots plated their first three batters. They took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first, courtesy of second baseman Mason Pangborn’s leadoff single, designated hitter Zach Altamura’s six-pitch walk and center fielder Khaleel Pratt’s triple. Right fielder Garrett Shull plated Pratt on a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat.
That was all the offense the Bots could pull off. They were hitless in the next seven innings en route to a 13-3, run-rule loss in eight innings Wednesday against the Pulaski River Turtles, who had three three-run innings.
Everything seemed to click for the away club, as Pulaski secured its 12th win of the season. Danville dropped to 7-15.
There were some positives. Catcher Gavin Brewer made his Otterbots debut and had a spectacular basket catch in foul ground. Pratt secured his second triple of the season. Altamura stole his first base of the summer. Shortstop Seth Smith made the double plays look easy by flashing his leather yet again.
Danville and Pulaski meet again at 7 p.m. Thursday. American Legion Field will be packed for the annual Fourth of July celebration as the Bots look to finish their homestand with a boom.
