DANVILLE, Va. — The home crowd was sent home happy on June 9 as the Otterbots secured their first win of the 2025 season. They sent the River Riders down the river, 3-2, behind their stellar pitching.
Maddox McDougall started the evening for the Otterbots, throwing two innings of shutout baseball. He also picked off a runner at first, working together with teammate Aimon Chandler.
Paxton Tucker, ultimately getting the win, followed with three strikeouts. Matt Spada came after him with four strikeouts. In the seventh inning, Cade Sudderth registered two strikeouts, followed by Tyler Davis, who secured his first save of the year with two strikeouts.
“I’m happy for the kids,” manager Mickey Tettleton said. “They’ve worked hard these first few days; we didn’t play that bad over in Greeneville, but just happy for the kids.”
On the offensive side of things, Christian Hamilton got things started for the Otterbots with an RBI single to plate Alexander Sifford in the second inning. After Elizabethton tied it via a sac fly, Khaleel Pratt got the crowd on their feet again with a loud double to the left-field wall. He advanced to third when the River Riders attempted to nab Garrett Shull at the plate.
“I would have liked to see us get a few more guys home from third base with less than two outs, but it’s a talented bunch. And we’ve got some reinforcements in Micah (Dean), Connie (Alex Conover) and Charlie Carter. We have some more options now,” Tettleton said.
Antonio Cordeiro scored on a wild pitch to take the lead in the sixth. The Otterbots held the lead from then on.
Danville secured its first win of the season, moving to 1-3 on the year. Elizabethton falls to 1-3. Both teams play one another again on June 10, with the first pitch at 7 p.m. Eastern Time at American Legion Field.
