DANVILLE, VA — The Danville Otterbots and the Burlington Sock Puppets played in the East Championship game at Dan Daniel Memorial Park. As the Otterbots were down to their last breath, Kaden Martin lined a deep ball to left field to bring in two runs to seal a 3-2 victory.
The Sock Puppets had control of the entire game. Sock Puppets’ starter Aiden Weaver went seven innings, and he gave up six hits, no runs and struck out nine. The Otterbots would later take advantage of the Sock Puppets’ bullpen mistakes.
The Otterbots' pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts and issued just five walks. James Guyette, Mason Hatcher, Cyle Phelan and Raymond Ladd did a fantastic job keeping the Otterbots within reach throughout the game.
The Otterbots’ bats were quiet throughout most of the game until Martin’s late-game heroics to send the Otterbots to the Championship Game in which they will go up against Greeneville.
The Otterbots and Flyboys will be playing for the Appalachian League title Saturday at Dan Daniel Memorial Park. The first pitch is at 7 p.m., and you can tune in to watch the game on Pixellot TV.
