Aiming for repeat, Otterbots announce 2025 coaching staff

2025 Danville Coaching Staff

DANVILLE, Va. -- There’s a time for old, and there’s a time for new. The Danville Otterbots of the Appalachian League will have familiar faces for a new season on the coaching staff.

Mickey Tettleton, a 14-year MLB veteran, returns for his second season as manager. He led the Otterbots to the 2024 Appalachian League Championship, Danville’s first title since 2009. He looks to repeat the team’s success in 2025.

The Otterbots will continue their familiar lineup with their coaching staff. Steve Gomez (pitching coach), Riley Nelson (hitting coach) and Tommy Williams (bench coach) will serve under Tettleton and be a big presence in the home dugout and clubhouse.

“I am really happy to hear that Tommy, Riley and Steve are all going to be part of the Otterbots coaching staff again this summer,” Tettleton said. “They did an amazing job with the players. Can’t wait to watch them in Year 2!”

Head trainer Angela McNeely is returning as well. The Danville native will be serving in her fifth season with the Otterbots.

“Her professionalism and care for our players is second to none!” Tettleton said.

“I look forward to working with this outstanding championship-winning coaching staff this season,” Otterbots general manager Matt McLaughlin, a 20-year MiLB front office veteran, said. “Their leadership and coaching style will continue to impact Danville both on and off the field this season.”

The Otterbots open their season in Greeneville on June 5 with three games against the Flyboys. Their first home game is June 9 against the Elizabethton River Riders. After a 31-win season and an Appy League title in 2024, the Otterbots have one goal in mind: Do it all over again.

Bring on 2025. The Otterbots are ready to roll out.
