Flyboys lose to Doughboys in Johnson City

JOHSNON CITY, Tenn. – The Greeneville Flyboys fell to the Johnson City Doughboys, 7-1, on Wednesday night.

The Doughboys (14-4) have now won 11 straight games at home. The Flyboys (9-11) are responsible for three of their losses this season but have been outscored, 21-2, in Johnson City.

The Doughboys got off to a hot start in this one as Johnson City scored four runs in the first inning. Logan Sutter had a two-run single, and two Flyboys’ errors scored two more runs. Johnson City has now scored in the first inning in 12 of its first 18 games.

The game would remain 4-0 until Andrew Neil picked up a pinch-hit RBI knock in the seventh inning. Cameron King scored run No. 11 on the base hit and Neil picked up his third RBI.

Colby Backus then ran into one in the eighth inning. His 383-foot home run came off the bat at 99 miles per hour. It was his league-leading sixth home run of the season. Backus scored five runs in the series against the Flyboys and is now tied for second in the league in runs scored with 20.

The Flyboys picked up a ninth inning run on an RBI hit from Jack Mosh which scored Tristan Ellis. Mosh now has nine RBIs this season and leads the team in batting average at .377. 

Daniel Eagen (1-1) started the game for Greeneville and gave up four runs, taking the loss. Jacob Poe (1-0) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless relief innings for Johnson City and got the win.
