ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - The Elizabethton River Riders were firing on all cylinders on Friday night as they finished off a two-game sweep of the Greeneville Flyboys with a 10-4 win.
E-Town struck first in the first when Travis Moore, Jr. was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it a 1-0 game. After a two-spot in the top of the second gave the Flyboys a 2-1 lead, the River Riders broke the game open. It was three in the second and three in the third.
In the second, it was a wild pitch, a bases-loaded hit batter, and an RBI groundout that allowed Elizabethton to retake the lead. The River Riders then blew the game open in the third when Peyton Basler hit a two-run single and Ethan Sitzman hit a run-scoring single to extend the lead to 7-2.
The lead ballooned further in the bottom of the sixth, when Carter Jagiela and Moore, Jr. went back-to-back to lead off the frame and give the River Riders a seven-run cushion. One more run was added on for good measure in the seventh when another Sitzman single scored a run.
A run of 16 straight Flyboy hitters being retired ended in the top of the ninth, when Aden Hill and Nick Barone walked to start the frame. They both eventually scored, bringing it the final tally, but Greeneville did not get any closer than that.
