CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Appalachian League announced the Johnson City Doughboys as the recipient of the 2024 Promotional Award. The Promotional Award is given to the club that demonstrated outstanding promotional work during the season.
The Doughboys enjoyed a record-breaking season at TVA Credit Union Ballpark, leading the Appalachian League with a record attendance of 90,862 fans, averaging 3,365 per home game. The team’s innovative promotional schedule was a key driver behind the success, offering a diverse range of events that kept fans coming back for more.
“We strive to bring fun family entertainment to Johnson City during the Doughboys games that is affordable for everyone," said Doughboys general manager Patrick Ennis. "To see young to old laughing and having a great time means so much to our front office staff. The support from our fans has been tremendous, and we are setting our sights on some even bigger nights in 2025!”
Highlights of the Doughboys' promotional calendar included unique themed nights such as Camo Jersey Wednesdays, Scooby Doo Night and Make-A-Wish Night, all featuring custom jerseys worn by the Doughboys, and Johnson City Connect Night, which saw the team wear custom jerseys created in collaboration with the East Tennessee State University Alumni Association. These events not only drew large crowds but also fostered a deeper connection between the team and the local community.
In addition to these standout events, the Doughboys’ daily promotions, like Dollar Days on Mondays and Tuesdays, consistently attracted fans. At the same time, weekend family fun nights -- featuring themes like Star Wars, Pirates and Princesses, Margaritaville and Honky Tonk with post-game concerts and fireworks -- ensured there was always something exciting happening at the ballpark.
The ever-growing popularity of the Doughboy’s beloved bat dog, Rocky, culminated in a Rocky The Bat Dog bobblehead giveaway July 27 that sold out in just 15 minutes. The Doughboys’ creative promotional efforts entertained and strengthened their bond with the fans, making every game a memorable experience.
