CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Appalachian League announced that Johnson City’s Nate Eisfelder (Indiana) and Jayce Rollins (Florida Southern) were named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period of July 27-30. This is the second weekly honor for both Eisfelder (July 13-19) and Rollins (July 20-26) this season.
Eisfelder, 20, earned his second Player of the Week honor after hitting .857/.923/2.000 with a 2.923 OPS in three games for the Doughboys, who clinched their spot in the Appalachian League postseason in the final game of the regular season. He went 6-for-7 at the plate with two home runs, two doubles, six RBI, seven runs and five walks, collecting 14 total bases while reaching safely in 11-of-12 plate appearances.
The Jonesborough, Tenn., native finished the season with 11 home runs, most in the Appy League and most in a season in Doughboys history. Eisfelder also led the league with 23 extra-base hits, was third in slugging percentage (.672) and OPS (1.149), fourth in RBI (41), and fifth in bases on balls (36). The outfielder played in 18 games as a freshman at Tennessee in the spring; he hit two home runs and had nine RBI. Eisfelder is committed to attend Indiana in the fall.
Rollins, 19, who earned Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week honors last week after a 12-strikeout quality start on July 23, twirled another gem on July 30, clinching a playoff berth for Johnson City. The 6-foot-6 Florida Southern righty tossed his second consecutive quality start, throwing 96 pitches over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven, allowing just two walks and four hits while earning his fourth win of the season. On the week, Rollins had a 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and .200 BAA. Among qualifying pitchers, Rollins finished the regular season second in the league in wins (four), games started (eight) and innings pitched (37.0), and third in strikeouts (38) and ERA (3.16).
The San Antonio, Fla., native threw 34.1 innings over 12 appearances as a freshman at Florida Southern this spring, totaling 30 strikeouts against just eight walks. He tallied season-high five strikeouts against Illinois Springfield on Feb. 14 and Roosevelt on March 3. The Pasco High School valedictorian was named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2026.
