CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Appalachian League announced that Pulaski’s Noah Rabin and Danville’s James Guyette were named Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the period of July 8-14.
Rabin, 23, earned Hitter of the Week honors after batting .421 (8-for-19) with 10 runs scored, two home runs, two triples, one double and seven RBI in six games for the River Turtles. He led all Appy League hitters during the period in OPS (1.577), runs, triples and total bases (19), and finished second in the circuit in home runs (tied) and slugging (1.000).
Rabin hit safely in five games for Pulaski, posting three multi-hit efforts and multi-RBI games apiece during his award-winning week. After going a combined 1-for-7 with two RBI on July 9-10 at Elizabethton to open the week, Rabin was 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and three RBI against Bristol on July 11. He also reached twice via walks en route to scoring a season-high four runs in the contest. Rabin reached base three times the following day, going 1-for-3 with two walks. Facing Tri-State in a weekend series, Rabin doubled and scored three runs in a 2-for-3 performance on Saturday before going 2-for-3 with a homer, double, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday to close the week.
A Sebastopol, Calif., native, Rabin is hitting .280 (28-for-100) with a .402 OBP and .510 slugging through 27 games this season between Johnson City (14 games) and Pulaski (13). He has 11 extra-base hits on the season, including four home runs, 21 RBI and 28 runs scored. Since joining Pulaski on June 25, Rabin has produced a 1.000 OPS with three home runs, two triples, two doubles and 10 RBI. Rabin was named to the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Tournament Team after hitting .303 with a 1.020 OPS and team-leading 18 home runs in 49 games as an Illinois State junior this spring. His 50 RBI were third-most on the team.
Guyette, 19, garnered Pitcher of the Week honors after he delivered a pair of perfect outings, working two innings in each, in as many relief appearances for the Otterbots. The right-hander tied for the Appy League lead in ERA (0.00), WHIP (0.00) and BAA (.000) while striking out seven of the 12 batters he faced across the two appearances.
Guyette (2-0) picked up the win at Bluefield on July 11, when he struck out four in two perfect frames while throwing 22 pitches (18 strikes). He added two more flawless innings at Johnson City on July 13, tallying three strikeouts on 23 pitches (16 strikes). Guyette has not allowed a run in three straight appearances for the Otterbots, going 2-0 with 13 strikeouts and one hit allowed over six innings during that stretch.
A Newbury Park, Calif., native, Guyette has held opposing hitters to a .193 average while striking out 31 batters in 16 innings (17.4 K/9). As a Kansas State freshman this spring, he appeared in five games, making one start, and recorded seven strikeouts in six innings.
